Toy Story PULL STRING WOODY 16" TALKING FIGURE - Disney ExclusiveHow about a six-year-old little girl who has had me stalking the mail since mid September for the beloved Disney and Pixar character Woody and her light up shoes to go with Belle costume to go with her Halloween costume.
You see, it was in September that my two older children decided to spend out of their allowances for the first time. Much to my astonishment, they carefully saved their money over the past year, never spending more than a dollar or two every few months on a piece of candy, so that they could pick out a special toy to purchase themselves.
Why, because my kids are the type to ask for EVERYTHING they see on a television commercial, but we only buy toys for them for Birthdays, Christmas and one or two times throughout the year otherwise. Since switching to this method, I have found my kids much more appreciative of the toys they own and watched them choose very wisely when spending their own money instead of the cheap toys that they usually request.
We are growing spending savvy kids who have learned the value of saving their allowance and caring for their possessions. Not to mention the fact, I love that they are learning the great difference between wants and needs. They may want all of those toys but they are not needs so it is wasteful, monetarily and environmentally, to purchase that at will all of the time.
Patience My Young Padiwan
So, why the patience you ask? Well, I got the lovely email on September 20 from the Disney Store informing us that the Woody Doll Goldilocks had purchased had been shipped via regular USPS. After about a week went by, she began requesting that we diligently go to the post office (we have a PO Box) and check the mail every day.
Well, yesterday, when I went to check for the Workman’s Comp check that is MIA, there was still no sign of our Toy Story friend. Hitting the 17-day mark, I went ahead and emailed the Disney store. In a few hours they replied and apologized that the package had never arrived informing me that a new shipment has gone out, free of charge, and we should receive it within 7 to 9 days.
When I informed Goldilocks who has already waited three weeks since the original order date for the Woody that she saved so long for wouldn’t be here until after her little sisters birthday, she just smiled. It was at that moment that I realized just how patient my little six year old is. I mean really, if I had ordered something, say a new awesome curriculum to try out, and had to wait a month or longer for it to arrive, I would be in pure panic mode.
A Toy without a Friend
Disney Light-Up Belle Shoes for GirlsWhile it has all turned out fine our end, I feel it is important to point out that somewhere floating out in the mail land there is a poor Woody doll that doesn’t have a friend. If you should come across him, please take him in and provide him with the play and love he deserves. And don’t forget about those lovely light up Belle shoes either. What good are a pair of pretty dress up shoes with no one to wear them?
