We are huge Leapfrog Fans at the Odd house! It started with the fridge phonics set back in 2004, when Matt just a little one. Now, our four year old Ali LOVES the classic videos and ask to watch "her school."
I was really excited to find out that MEGA Brands America (makers of classic preschool fun, the MEGA Blocks) was publishing a paper based Leapfrog line of learning products. Yes, no batteries required!
I was recently sent a sampling of these products for the Preschool to Kindergarten age range to review.
So what Leapfrog products did we get?
The Draw & Write Board pictured above. It is double sided with lines and picture box on one side, while blank on the other. Ali was using it to copy letters and pictures from her Alphabet Flash Cards, but it is great for all elementary age kids.
The flash cards are colorful and come with multiple fun activities printed on a card for making them fun. I haven't even had a chance to try them out yet, because Ali took it upon herself to do what I mention above as well as sort the cards out by letter.
The Kindergarten Skills workbook seems to be Ali's favorite because it is bright and colorful, yet simple. Plus it has fun stickers to put on each page after it is completed.
Ali hasn't spent a lot of time with the Colors, Shapes & Counting dry erase activity book, but that's okay with me. I think it would be a great addition to our "stuff to do in the car" list for longer trips.
Though the Pencil Grips would be great for all three of my kiddos, Ali has claimed them all because she is fascinated by them. Not because they go on a pencil, but because of their colors and shapes. Her little inquisitive mind went to work right away asking me what would happen to them if we got them we or put them in the freezer. She was ready for some full on experimentation.
Finally, we were sent a Creative Journal, which is geared towards second and third grade, so I convinced Ali to give it to her big sister. Ema, 8, is using it to write stories in and loving it!
I think the whole product line is great!
I personally plan to add more products from the preschool to kindergarten age range to our home for the times that Ali wants to "do school."
I also want to head to the store to check out the older kid stuff in person for Ema to use.
Want to buy your own Leapfrog paper product?
LeapFrog products by MEGA Brands are available for purchase (MSRP $0.99 - $24.99 for children ages 3 and up) at major retailers including Toys R Us, Michaels, Joann’s, Target, Walmart, Officemax, and Costco. At Target and Walmart, look for them near the stationery and writing instruments, rather than toys or school supplies.
If you want to read more reviews about the product line, including other age groups, head over to Mosaic Review and read what my team mates had to say.
