Even though there have always been men in my life that are perfectly capable of changing the oil in a car themselves, it does not always happen. Take now for example, we are a one-vehicle family, the hubs is a mechanic and does all of the driving, yet he still slacks on the oil changes.
Luckily, I was invited by Smiley360 to review the oil change service from Pep Boys just as the car was due for one. To facilitate my review they sent me a $30 gift card and other fun goodies like a car air freshener. While I love free stuff, I assure you that it has not influenced my review and opinions remain 100% my own.
Scheduling my Appointment
Unlike when I was a teenager and drove to a local oil change service, hoping they were not busy, Pep Boys allows you to schedule an appointment online for any service you need. I went to the Pep Boys website, clicked on “service center” and then “make an appointment.” Then I selected my local store, added my vehicle and picked which services I needed done. Then I calendar popped up and I was able to pick my preferred day and time. In less than five minutes, I made our oil change appointment and was impressed.
The day of our scheduled appointment, the hubs realized he was not going to be able to make the time we had chosen. I had not created a log-in when I scheduled the appointment so I had no way to cancel online. I tried calling our local Pep Boys multiple times to cancel, but the phone just rang and rang and rang. I was little irked, but I figured it was their loss of time, not mine. I rescheduled the appointment just the same as before.
The hubs arrived a just before the appointment time and was impressed by the large glass window that allowed him to view the technician while they performed the oil change on the car. They did a great job looking the car over and finding that we desperately needed a new tie rod and a few minor fixes. Then the glass window became less impressive as the hubs was able to view the technician spending more than half of the 1 hour and 45 minutes it took to change our oil, doing anything other than working on a car.
I was honestly irked enough at the fact that it took almost two hours for a scheduled oil change, that I almost opted out of this review.
Then they redeemed themselves.
You see, Pep Boys have offered the hubs a discounted alignment, for $50, if he came back to them after fixing the tie rod himself. (Remember the hubs is a mechanic) He fixed the part, called them up and they held true to their offer. They aligned the tires in a very reasonable amount of time and charged the discounted rate as promised.
Maybe our oil change day was just a bad day, I’m not sure, but overall, they completed the services we requested of them right, didn’t lie about any repairs that needed to be done, and held true to their word. It isn’t often that you get all of that out of a mechanic or service center, so they have earned my loyalty and trust.
