Our Odd Week In Review: Interest Led Learning and a Family Purpose

It has been an interesting week in our odd little home. Interesting, but one that has been full of laughter, accomplishment and snuggles accompanied by our favorite holiday movies.

In my life this week…

I was humiliated and confused when a cop came banging on my door...you can read about it at Routine and Comfort are Good, Until You Flash a Cop Some Nipple. I realized that my kids really aren't big fans of leftover turkey. I can assure you I won't be cooking another 22 lb one for just the five of us next year. I also discovered weekplan.net that I'm using to attempt to manage my time now that I've taken on reviewing products again, like this one for ShaveMOB where I told you all about my beastly hairy legs.

In our homeschool this week…

Matt and Ema actually forgo arguing with me about reading fiction and instead insisted this week that they shouldn't have any math lessons because they have done more than enough while programming. I found it hard to argue with their logic when I know that they have been working with algebra and geometry concepts above their heads. Matt has edited code to create his own MInecraft type game called Blocky Worlds and Ema drew a unicorn with her code created from scratch.

On the mom end of our homeschool, I started transferring everything from our learning log that I keep in OneNote over to My Home School Grades. As usual, I was blown away at how much work my kids have done since we have embraced more of an unschooling/interest-led learning lifestyle. By plugging each activity into an appropriate subject area I see where their passions are it just makes me smile!

Go read The Unhurried Homeschooler and Being an 'Elephant Mom' in the Time of the Tiger Mother and thank me later!

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

No where and nobody at the moment, but the kids are excitedly counting down my parents arrival on the 18th. I do need to get my butt in gear though and find something fun for us all to go do while they are here. Maybe a visit to D.C. is in order.

Finally - I’m grateful for…

My family and took time this week to update our family purpose statement before we head into a new year.
