Our Odd Week in Review: Thinking Ahead

I'm not going to lie ya'll, I was absolutely LAZY this week. With the exception of yesterday, I didn't even attempt my spring cleaning. Instead I took advantage of a week with no expectations to recoup from the funk we got and think ahead to the high school and college years.

In my life this week…

I organized my to-do's in Asana so that I'm ready to go tomorrow when I no longer have an excuse to be a total bum.

In our homeschool this week…

The kids were on "Spring Break" but I spent some time looking over what they've accomplished this year and thinking about a course of study for Matt for 7th grade and up. This led me to freaking out a bit again when I saw the cost for a game design degree at Full Sail University.

The logical, frugal part of my brain (you know that part that pretty much dominates my life) just can't justify spending $80,000 to say, "yeah, I know how to do this, here is a piece of paper that proves it."

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…

I shared an updated review of My Homeschool Grades and how I use OneNote as unschool record keeper this past week. They are my go-to's for tracking our learning journey.

My favorite thing this week was…

Going to an estate sale in town yesterday and snagging up a $160 pasta machine for $8! Plus I got my hands on some vintage books and an old Chinese abacus. To add to my inner happy dance, I got to see the biggest smiles on the kids faces and they enjoyed the local park when we were done.

My kiddos favorite thing this week was…

Having dinner at Kobe Friday night and trying to catch flying pieces of chicken in their mouths.

Things I’m working on…

I'm finally going through all of our clothes and getting the rest of the winter stuff put up until next season. I'm also figuring out that Ema really just needs to stop growing. She already steals my shoes and soon she'll be stealing my clothes. These kids are making me feel old!

On the menu this week…

Ema is going to bake an apple crumble today for our dessert for the week and then we will have

  • Sunday - Beef Roast with potatoes and green beans
  • Monday - Brocolli Soup and rolls
  • Tuesday - Taco Bar with yellow rice
  • Wednesday - Chicken and dumpling soup
  • Thursday -  Pork tenderloin, rice with gravy & salad
  • Friday - Pasta (with the new pasta machine) w/pesto sauce and salad
  • Saturday - Leftover Buffet
