The Homeschool Mother’s Journal: I Survived Assessments

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week...

I realized that there about a million and one things I want to accomplish when it comes to this website, yet I can never keep my focus on one of them long enough to complete it. I’m in need of a serious organization makeover, not only for my mind but for my house too.

In our homeschool this week...

We completed mid-year assessments for reading and math so I could gauge where the kids are at better. What information is sticking and what do we really need to work harder on. The results were pretty spot on for what I expected. I managed to survive Baby Bear completely spazzing out during the math portion because he didn’t know answers and can relax until we do it again at the end of the school year.

We spent time learning more about dinosaurs and pre-history and lots and lots of time outdoors enjoying the beautiful Florida weather.

Places we're going and people we're seeing...

Nowhere at the moment, but I’m gearing up and planning for our trip to the local nature conservatory when once we get our package in from Yoplait and MyBlogSpark for Yoplait Kids. We are going to take a walk, with sketchbooks in hand to look for the signs of spring. In the morning of course though, this is Florida after all, we would bake in the afternoon.

My favorite thing this week was...

Was watching Goldilocks’ (5) light up when she read 10 pages of a Dick and Jane book and realized that she “really could do this.”

What's working/not working for us...

A combination of old school textbooks, tons of living books, great literature and Homework Helpers are working great for us right now.

We are moving further and further away from online curriculum as the kids have seemed to have lost focus with it for now.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have...

Gearing up for series of post next week, how much technology do you embrace in your home school? Are you ready to take on the digital age or are you clinging onto your paperbacks and chalkboards for dear life?

A photo, video, link, or quote to share...

My Little Red (2) is fascinated with singing now and in light of the full moon last night I would like to quote her favorite:

“I see the moon, and the moon sees me!”

Have a great weekend!
