The Week We Were Really Really Lazy!
Thanks to @HomeSchoolSue for hosting The Homeschool Mother’s Journal once again at The Homeschool Chick. Once again, I get to share my thoughts for the week, even though our week lacked any sort of excitement or luster.
In My Life This Week
I’ve spent the week recovering from being crazy enough to do two full days of Disney with the kids while sick. While we were away the horrible sinus pressure that had been building up since last Wednesday caused my wisdom tooth (I’ve only had two removed) to become infected.
So, I have spent this week on antibiotics, still hacking my lungs out and hoping that this miserable concoction is almost done taking its toll body.
In Our Homeschool This Week
Ummm, home school? I enlisted the mama’s sick enjoy some creative play and eduTV time. I did manage to get in two chapters of the Swiss Family Robinson with them the day the power was off in our horrible storms.
Goldilocks begged me to keep reading but my throat couldn’t handle it. I think since she enjoyed it so much I will make that our new book for evening reading in family time.
Places We’re Going and People We’re Seeing…..
We are headed to nowhere to see nobody! After last weekend, I’m not planning even the shortest day trip until we all get well, back on schedule and have our butts in gear.
My Favorite Thing This Week Was
Well, it was technically last weekend, but even though we were at the Disney parks purely for enjoyment this time and the kids had a blast, I loved how much information they soaked in all on their own.
I also loved how inquisitive they were asking about things that will spark some great lessons.
What’s Working/Not Working for US
Knowing that after all of these sick days and the spring cleaning break we will have to work through the beginning of August to get our 180 days in needed for our Florida Umbrella school. Phooey, we just enjoyed too many long weekends this year.
I’m considering scheduling next year as a four-day school week with less longer breaks and working through the full year. We will see though.
Homeschool Questions/Thoughts I Have
I shared last week how I was gravitating towards classical methods for the kids, I use them a bit. I think what it really is, is that I gravitate towards methods that embrace the child.
I wish I had the budget to implement a harmonious blending of classical, Montessori and Waldorf without sacrificing our love for tech.
Time will tell what path our family ends up down.
A photo, video, link, or quote to share...
It’s Disney Photo Time!
We let each of the kids pick out a pair of Mickey ears, Baby Bear chose Toy Story.
As usual, Baby Bear was completely avoiding Social Situations, so Mickey Mouse came up from behind when we were leaving the photo area to sneak a pic with him. He had no idea he was in the background! : )
The Birthday Girl had a blast!
So did Little Red!
Of course we had to get a photo with them all together too!
Here is me and the girls on their way to see Mickey.
Hope you enjoyed the photos, I know I did. It sure makes being sick for over week well worth it to see those smiles again!
