Our Odd Week in Review: Downpours and Sunshine

sunshinequote.jpg

In rained her all last week, literally and figuratively. It was cool, gloomy and a steady downpour seemed like it was never going to end. We received unfortunate news about a family member, Matt is still on his downswing, A rock smashed into the windshield of the car and the cat broke my bear figurine given to us by my Aunt over ten years ago.

You know what though, there is always some sunshine somewhere and Friday morning it peeked through the clouds for a few minutes and reminded me to to focus on the good.

We will give time to spend the love one, she wasn't taken away without the chance for goodbye. Matt will get out of this slump, he always does. We have great insurance and the windshield is being fixed this morning. While I loved my bear figurine, it was just a thing, things can be replaced and I still have the memories.

In my life this week…

I picked up copy of Organized Simplicity for the umpteenth time, took a deep breath exhaled. Whenever I feel like the walls are closing in and life has become chaotic this book is a reminder to me of the simple life that I want and what I need to do to achieve it. When I wasn't reading and rewriting our family's purpose statement, I kept busy planning our last minute trip to Florida, cleaning out our pantry and I actually managed to keep our dining room table clutter free.

In our homeschool this week…

Natalie worked on phonics, we all listened to read alouds, the girls worked on color theory with clay and Matt worked with Dragonbox Algebra among other things. Basically, it was a laid back, interest led week, that was a little lax on inquiry but full of rich discussion, a.k.a. a successful week.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

We will be travelling to Florida soon to spend some much needed time with the family member mentioned above. It is our first time back since we moved here to Virginia a year ago. Planning a last minute trip with three kids, a dog and two cats is not easy, I'm not looking forward to the heat, but I can't wait to get there and soak up every memory we can.

My favorite thing this week was…

When my hubby showed me his awesome review at work. It was like a cherry on top of all that sunshine I had look for through all of the rain.

My kiddos favorite thing this week was…

Downloading the new Call of Duty map packs for their daddy while he was at work to surprise him. They new that he needed the sunshine more than any of us and they couldn't wait to try and brighten up his day.

Things I’m working on…

Hopefully some new social media, PR and marketing freelance jobs soon. I hadn't taken on any new clients since the beginning of the year, choosing to place my focus elsewhere for a while. In the meantime, I'm putting my focus back on a plan to finding my version of a simple life.

I’m cooking…

I'm not entirely sure what is going on the menu for the week, but I can tell you that I'm trying to use stuff up before we go and I've got a ton of fresh raspberries in the fridge that have made a regular appearance whenever I can fit them in. I freaking LOVE raspberries.

I’m grateful for…

Every opportunity that I have to make memories with family. I treasure those memories more than any trinket we could ever own.

How was your week, more downpour, sunshine or equal amounts of both?
