Our Odd Week in Review: Unicorns Have More Fun!

I had planned our school year through the end of July, taking two weeks off in August, but with everything going on right now (#CancerSucks, Downpours & Sunshine) we are on a hiatus. Fortunately though, my kids have gotten pretty good finding their way around the definition of unschooling and there has been plenty of natural learning going on.

In my life this week…

I attempted clothes shopping with Ema and Ali while the boys wandered around the store, probably wanting to pull their hair out, waiting on us. She has sprouted up at least four inches since last October and is growing out of clothes as fast as I can buy them. The problem, imagine the pickiest eater you've ever met, now apply that to clothes. She is SO sensitive to how they fit and feel on her and finding something she actually likes is a bit maddening. After about an hour of searching and fitting rooms, we managed to find one summer dress, two shirts and a swimsuit that she actually liked. I call that a win!

In our homeschool this week…

Matt schooled Adam on the difference between a rabbit and a hare, Natalie has been happily sharing that she can now read large numbers (Unschooler's Mathematics Checklist here I come) and Ema  has been beefing up her money skills with multiple rounds of Fishin'Opoloy.

Bonus, we've all been debating what audio books we will listen to on our 12+ hour upcoming road trip. Ema's insisting that she just wants to put on her head phones and listen to deep sleep meditations, but here are all of suggestions, I'll let you know later what we ended up listening to.

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…

If your kids LOVE Minecraft, have them try out the Build Battle server. It is a great way to spark some creativity and make them think. Bonus, if my kids are asked to build something they are unsure of, they quickly play the 50 questions game with me to learn more.

Hello Everybody! Welcome to a new mini game called 'Build Battle' on hypixel's server. Build Battle is a 5 minute fast paced building game, where you literally have to build whatever in 5 minutes! Hope you enjoy!

My favorite thing this week was…

Watching the kids play outside four HOURS. In the hose, tag, washing the car together. It was nice to sit back and watch them have some pure, unstructured fun while making lots of great memories.

Matt and Ali picked up a few things while we are out too, like this awesome dress "Unicorns Have More Fun!"
